Practical Applications of Integrative Metaphors
Welcome to Dissipative Structures, Quantum Entanglement, and Self Awareness! My name is Todd Blattner and I currently work as an online teacher and elementary school counselor. I also have a small private counseling practice where I work mainly with adults and work with issues ranging from depression to anxiety and relationship difficulties to personal growth, and anything in between. I have a master’s degree in psychology, have been a student of Integrative Body Psychotherapy (which I will explain more about later) for the past 7 years, and have nearly completed teacher’s training to be able to teach this form of therapy.

I  am also interested in Integration – the way that mind/body and spirit work together, and the ways that bigger and more universal truths can be gleaned by comparing what is common from many viewpoints.

For as long as I can remember, I have wondered about how the ancient wisdom and teachings that are common to all great religions can be connected be really lived, experienced, and understood. Part of what I have learned is that there are stages of understanding.

An example of this is when one wants to learn about a new country – India for example.

First is awareness that it exists – we go to school and learn that there is a country called India
Second is learning about it from books or movies – we find out more about the culture, language, beliefs, and lifestyle
Third is talking to people who have actually been there – we get first hand accounts and anecdotes
Fourth is going there for a visit – we actually experience the sites, smells, sounds, tastes, and the feel of being there, but as a tourist
Fifth is actually living there – we understand what it is like to be a part of the country.

This evening’s talk is like an introduction to a new country. In one hour we won’t get much farther than learning that another country exists, and understanding a little bit of what it might look like. This hour is an introduction to suggest that there is a completely different way of looking at our lives and the world. However, if one really wants to learn about, experience, or live in this world, it is the same as if one really wants to learn about a new country. Eventually, one has to go there…
